These are really for the living. This is the way we say our goodbyes to a family member or a friend in a special and unique way that reflects on their lives.
This ceremony is a rite of passage for both the deceased and the living. The traditional ritual that takes place when one passes away. As there is no legal requirement to have a funeral, there is no set format – but in saying that most people prefer a traditional ceremony which typically includes: music, readings, poetry or other prose, photos, and a eulogy honouring the life of the deceased.
For me funerals are particularly personal and I prepare my ceremonies by getting to know the family and the life of the deceased.
Memorial Services
When someone dies and a body is unavailable for burial or cremation due to legalities, distance etc, or the family just prefers to have a private funeral, they then are able to have a memorial for other family and friends to reflect on and say their goodbyes.
This may take place at any time and place after death, even being celebrated on the anniversary of the decease’s death. As there is no body or coffin it can easily be held in a favourite park, beach or a loved one’s home. Just like a funeral, it can consist of music, readings, poetry or other prose, photos, and a eulogy honouring the life of the deceased and bringing closure to those who were unable to attend the funeral.
